LabelIn the early to mid-nineteenth century, celery was considered a luxury. When served, the stalks were cut in quarters lengthwise, the leaves curled, and they were placed upright in water in widemouthed vessels. Advertisements referred to celery containers as vases, stands, or glasses.* Works in the collection are moved off view for many different reasons. Although gallery locations on the website are updated regularly, there is no guarantee that this object will be on display on the day of your visit. |
